Natural Awakenings Tucson

Tucson’s Living Streets Alliance Named National Advocacy Organization of the Year

Last month, at the opening gala of the 16th annual National Bike Summit, which unites the voices of bicyclists from across the nation in Washington D.C., Tucson-based nonprofit organization Living Streets Alliance (LSA) was awarded the national title of “Advocacy Organization of the Year” by the Alliance for Biking & Walking.

Since 2009, the Alliance for Biking & Walking—a national bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organization—has held the Advocacy Awards to recognize excellence in the bicycle and pedestrian movement. The Advocacy Organization of the Year award goes to a bicycling and/or walking advocacy organization that has made significant progress in the past year.

Since its inception in 2011, LSA has played a critical role in advocating for a bikable, walkable, livable Tucson. Best known for its biannual open streets event, Cyclovia Tucson, LSA also coordinates Safe Routes to School Tucson—a program to encourage more kids to bike and walk to school—and hosts bicycle safety and encouragement events like Light the Night and Bike Fest, the region’s annual celebration of “life on two wheels”.
