Dr. Uzick and Pam Stewart Open New facility in Tucson
Michael Uzick and Pam Stewart
Genesis Natural Medicine Center, in Tucson, on Campbell Road between Prince and River, is a unique practice, because Dr. Michael Uzick is unique. He’s the only naturopath in the Tucson area that is board-certified in naturopathic oncology.
Dr. Uzick and co-founder and Executive Director Pam Stewart have made sure that every facet of Genesis works to promote maximum wellness. The 3,100-square-foot complex boasts the soothing colors of a desert sunset, an organic herbal garden in the atrium, comfortable treatment rooms, a suite for IV therapies, another for colon hydrotherapy and a beautiful, state-of-the-art, far infra-red sauna.
With a bond centered on their passion for patient care, the pair set out to open an ideal center for healing. Stewart explains, “We really rely on each other’s strengths.”“This is my passion and what I believe is the best form of medicine” adds Uzick. “But patient care is complicated. There are so many details that must be attended to for each patient that few people have ever experienced the kind of medical care that they deserve.”
He continues, “My partnership with Pam enables us to provide something never seen before: extraordinary patient care. That’s because Pam has an amazing heart that touches everyone she meets and an impeccable integrity that is the foundation for this one-of-a-kind medical practice.
They conceptualized every meticulous detail of the center, “The people we’ve hired to work in our clinic also make this center immensely unique. We selected a staff not only with intelligence and great heart, but people who are committed to living a healthy lifestyle and believe in naturopathic medicine. Working at Genesis is not just a job, but an expression of their passion.” says Uzick. “The energy of the clinic is really in alignment in every way. We have an RN with years of experience in oncology. She’s famous for her ability to draw blood from the most difficult veins. That’s crucial for me, as oncology is an important part of my practice.”
More than ever, people are shifting away from conventional drug medicine and moving toward natural health approaches. However, many people are still unfamiliar with naturopathic medicine. They might be surprised to know that Uzick is licensed by the state of Arizona a primary care physician and has prescriptive rights that are similar to conventional medical doctors. Uzick is the only naturopath board certified in naturopathic oncology in our community and among just a handful in the country with this specialty.
“A naturopath is an eclectic physician,” says Uzick. “We study a broad range of natural healing approaches, including clinical nutrition, therapeutic diets, herbal medicine, homeopathy, physical medicine, hydrotherapy and counseling, as well as studies in traditional Chinese and ayurvedic medicine. Naturopathic doctors also receive training in minor surgery and pharmacology.
”In addition to naturopathic physicians, Genesis offers a wide array of natural therapies, including massage, acupuncture, colon hydrotherapy, constitutional hydrotherapy, far-infrared sauna treatment, LED-light pain therapy, lymphatic drainage, physician-led group cleanses and nutritional intravenous therapies. These services designed to treat the body as a whole, with a focus on the individual.
One of the most popular and beneficial massages is lymphatic drainage. “It is very beneficial for cancer patients,” says Uzick, “because oftentimes in surgery, the lymph nodes are removed and the lymph cannot drain properly, which can lead to the swelling of a limb, which in turn, can lead to an infection. Because the lymphatic system is essential for proper immune function and the removal of toxins, lymphatic drainage massage is important for everyone’s optimal health.
”The center also offers colon hydrotherapy. Many natural health advocates believe that all disease begins in the colon. This therapy is the most effective way to cleanse this part of the body, compared to any other method.
Uzick explains, “Colon hydrotherapy is particularly useful during a cleanse in order to ensure toxins are eliminated from the body and not reabsorbed. This is clearly demonstrated in patients suffering from multiple chemical sensitivities. These people are debilitated by the environmental toxins we are all exposed on a daily basis. It enables them to live and function normally.” Genesis offers doctor-supervised colon hydrotherapy in a private beautiful and sanitary environment. Genesis has taken this therapy to a higher level by investing in extra ventilation and a bidet, which provide the most comfortable experience possible.
Genesis boasts a spacious, tranquil IV (intravenous) suite with comfortable leather recliners. The adjacent nursing station with a large observation window facilitates careful monitoring of the patient. This is where personalized nutrient formulations are administered by a nurse. “Vitamins, when administered intravenously, can be a profoundly effective treatment for a variety of conditions,” states Uzick. “For example, high dose vitamin C IVs are an invaluable therapy for certain viral infections, particularly those in the herpes family of viruses or fungal infections such as coccidioidomycosis (valley fever), common in Arizona.”
Uzick continues, “The use of high-dose vitamin C IVs for cancer is gaining increasingly more attention in the medical field. My experience is that these IVs can help keep cancer patients in remission. Exciting case reports published in the medical literature have led to the funding of clinical trials which are currently underway. An important treatment we call ‘vascular rejuvenation’ offers a safe and effective way to prevent and reverse heart disease. The IV administration of a vitamin called phosphatidylcholine can slowly and gently reverse the plaques that develop within blood vessels. When this occurs in the arteries of the heart, a blockage can lead to a heart attack. There are many kinds of conditions that can benefit from IV therapy: everything from colds and flus to chronic fatigue.”
Uzick and Stewart joined forces to make their shared vision of a comprehensive natural medicine center that provides extraordinary patient care a reality. Stewart adds, “Every detail of this journey has had spiritual significance to me. Even our name, Genesis, signifies a new beginning, which perfectly speaks to our philosophy. Genesis Natural Medicine Center can truly be for you, the beginning of the rest of your life.”
This naturopathic medical practice, unlike any other in Southern Arizona, will celebrate its grand opening on January 26, with organic gourmet delicacies, entertainment and housewarming gifts.
