Natural Awakenings Tucson

May 2017 Letter From Publisher

This special women’s issue that we publish each May is one of our most popular issues of the entire year, and one of my favorites to put together. In this edition, we include plenty of articles written by women, for women, about women.

In “Heart-Based Leadership”, on page 30,
Linda Sechrist explains how women are mobilizing to heal the world. Something that stuck with me was the idea that many women have already served as change agents, but previously were rarely mentioned in the history books. Did you know that an astounding 12 women ran for president prior to Hillary Clinton? Perhaps the next to run will be our first female in office!

This issue wouldn’t be possible, and certainly wouldn’t be nearly as worthwhile or popular, without our local contributors. A special shout-out goes out to Loree Scheyli for providing such a comprehensive list of resources for new moms and dads in Tucson. She included contacts for everything from breastfeeding woes to postpartum emotional upheavals.

I’d like to also mention Echo Chanel, who is profiled in this month’s Artist Spotlight, on page 38. She is an amazing woman providing transformation experiences for other women in Tucson through her ability to see beauty everywhere she looks—especially through her camera lens.

While working with the kickass women of Tucson on this issue, I was reminded of one of my favorite Maya Angelou quotes: “I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.”

All the best,

Holly
