Medicinal Effects of CBD

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a natural anti-anxiety, anti-epileptic and anti-psychotic, and one of the main cannabinoids in cannabis. It lacks the main psychoactive compound, THC—the ingredient that makes one feel “high”—and is regarded as the main component responsible for cannabis medical benefits. The “high” generated from CBD is generally felt more in the body, whereas THC is felt more in the head.

Many patients use CBD for its benefits in treating nausea, inflammation, insomnia and anxiety. CBD can also negate some of the anxiety and paranoia that THC in high doses can cause. Donovan Hutchins, a SAINTS Dispensary Budtender, is a big advocate of using CBD. “If you have pain issues, muscle spasms or sleep disorders, and you’re not looking to feel a psychoactive effect, CBD is the perfect medicine. For pain, CBD is my go-to medicine.”

CBD is used as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including: PTSD, chronic pain, arthritis, depression, anxiety, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and other neurological disorders.

A “Grown by SAINTS” strain, Champa-Cheese, is a popular high CBD (1:1) strain that is much sought after by patients looking for pain and anxiety relief. Hutchins adds that he is “a big fan of a strain that we grow called Champa-Cheese. It’s a phenomenal strain. It really helps with muscle spasms and pain. It will help you address your pain and also allow you to go on about your day without feeling too medicated. It’s excellent for patients who don’t want the ‘high’ feeling that comes with THC strains,” he explains. “Our ultimate goal is to find a product which satisfies the medicating needs of each patient.”

Products at SAINTS dispensary that are high in CBD include: Timeless Canary Cartridges, Uncle Herbs THC/CBD tinctures, Haze & Main CBD Chocolate bars, Sublime CBD fruit chews, Sweeties Candies and Venice Cookie Company CBD churros.

To buy hemp-derived CBD products in Arizona, you do not need a medical marijuana card. SELECT CBD products, made from hemp oil, can be found in SAINTS dispensary. CBD products that have both THC and CBD require a current Arizona medical marijuana card to purchase. See ad, page 43.
