Chiropractic is More Than Twisting Necks

Many people only think about chiropractors when they have neck or back pain. What most people do not realize is that chiropractors receive the same breadth and depth of education in most of the same areas as other medical providers. According to the Council on Chiropractic Education, recognized by the Department of Education as a national accrediting agency that promotes excellence and assures the quality of chiropractic education, there are 15 accredited chiropractic teaching institutions in the United States.

All of these colleges or universities must provide instruction in the following areas: anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology, pathology, diagnosis, gynecology/ proctology, pediatrics, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, psychology, nutrition, biomechanics, orthopedics, neurology, spinal analysis, and chiropractic adjusting techniques, among others.

Chiropractors are educated to recognize and identify structural, pathological and psychological disorders in order to provide the best care to patients, including referral to other appropriate health care providers.

As would be expected, chiropractors are thoroughly trained in the identification, management and correction of nervous system interference. The aim of chiropractic is to remove interference from the nervous system, the master control system directing every process and function in the body. By removing this interference, chiropractic facilitates the highest level of health possible, potentially addressing much more than just neck or back pain.
