Natural Awakenings Tucson

Mindful Yoga Studio Celebrates Five Years

Mindful Yoga Studio, Tucson’s only Latina-owned yoga business, celebrated five successful years in business on July 30, with expanded yoga and health and wellness offerings. “We are grateful that the people of Tucson have responded to what we continue to envision for Mindful Yoga—a place to reflect, restore and renew,” founder and owner Shraddha Hilda Oropeza says.

Mindful Yoga’s certified teachers offer two dozen classes each week, including beginning, restorative, yin and flow yoga. The studio also offers an array of yoga and health and wellness workshops, craniosacral therapy and ayurvedic health counseling. “We have realized that people want and need more help finding relaxation, stress relief and a path to overall healthier living,” says Shraddha. “That’s why I have added energy work, known as craniosacral therapy, to my offerings, and we have partnered with an ayurvedic practitioner.”

Oropeza was born in Mexico and is a naturalized U.S. citizen. She has been teaching yoga for 12 years as a certified instructor with more than 1,000 hours of training under some of the yoga world’s top instructors.

Upcoming classes include topics on mindful aging, overcoming anxiety and exploring the yoga sutras. In the Mindful Aging Series with Devorah Coryell, from 2 to 4 p.m., October 15, attendees will explore how to embrace a whole-hearted, mindful vision of aging grounded in compassion, forgiveness and gratitude. In Overcoming Anxiety: A Natural & Holistic Approach, held from 1:30 to 3 p.m., October 7, 14, 21 and 28, Jessica Byron, MD, ERYT and Certified Yoga Therapist, will teach yoga tools for dealing with anxiety including simple postures, breathing techniques, meditation, guided relaxation, mudra and affirmation. Rama Jyoti Vernon will walk attendees through Exploring the Yoga Sutras, from November 9 to 11, teaching how the sutras convey the deeper essence of why we practice yoga.
