Goodwill’s GoodGuides Program Recruiting for School-Based Mentoring

Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona’s GoodGuides youth mentoring program seeks to partner supportive adults with at-risk youth, to help young people form healthy relationships, boost self-confidence, earn better grades and make better life choices. The program is currently recruiting adult mentors for youth ages 12 to 17 in Tucson.

“Both the adults and youth benefit from this relationship; they engage in a variety of activities while receiving continuous support from GoodGuides staff,” says Judith Simmons, Director of Marketing for Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona. “Volunteers can change a young person’s life by mentoring and being that one supportive adult.”

GoodGuides is now providing school-based mentoring to students at Pistor Middle School, Utterback Middle School, Morgan Maxwell K-8 and Valencia Middle School. Mentors would volunteer once or twice per week for between one and two hours per day. Youth and adults participate in activities like career exploration and confidence-building, and cover topics such as bullying.

The program provides both one-on-one mentoring and group mentoring opportunities, and is funded entirely by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Arizona Rise Partnership.
