There is something uniquely beautiful about summer in Tucson. By July, most of us have learned to work with the rhythms of the desert. Early mornings become especially precious as we sneak in a walk, hike or bike ride before the sun climbs high in the sky. Afternoons often send us indoors, while evenings invite us back out to enjoy colorful sunsets and keep an eye on the horizon for the arrival of the summer monsoons. Even in the heat, there is something special about this season and the anticipation of renewal that comes with it.

This month’s theme, Good Vibes, Great Outdoors, celebrates the healing power of nature and the many ways the outdoors supports our well-being. While July may not be the season for spending long days outside in Tucson, it is the perfect time to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us and to plan future adventures. Here in Southern Arizona, we are fortunate to live among some of the most remarkable landscapes in the country, from the iconic saguaros that define our desert home to the cooler mountain retreats that offer a welcome escape during the summer months.

Who needs four walls when we have landscapes as inspiring as these? Nature has a way of reminding us what truly matters. It slows us down. It encourages reflection. It invites us to listen more closely to our inner voice. Whether we are watching the changing colors of the sky, listening to birdsong in the early morning or simply taking a moment to appreciate the beauty around us, time spent connecting with nature nourishes both body and soul.

Summer is also a wonderful time to dream, plan and explore beyond our everyday routines. Many Southern Arizonans head north in search of cooler temperatures, while others venture across the country or around the world. Travel offers us the opportunity to see life through a different lens and experience landscapes, cultures and communities that expand our perspective. When I travel, I like to journal, take photographs, explore local culture and simply observe the people and places around me. There is something transformative about stepping outside our routines and allowing new experiences to shape us. Every journey, whether near or far, offers an opportunity to learn something new about ourselves and the world around us.

One of the things I love most about nature is the reminder that growth happens in its own time. The desert is full of lessons if we are willing to pay attention. A towering saguaro spends decades reaching its full height. Wildflowers wait patiently for the right conditions before bursting into bloom. In many ways, we are no different. We all have seasons of growth, rest, challenge and transformation. Nature reminds us that there is beauty in every stage of the journey and that sometimes the most meaningful progress happens quietly, one step at a time.

As you enjoy this issue, I hope you find inspiration to connect with nature in whatever way feels right for you. Perhaps that means planning your next adventure, visiting a place you have always wanted to explore or simply making time to slow down and appreciate the season you are in. Wherever your journey takes you, may it bring a renewed sense of gratitude, perspective and joy.

Wishing you blue skies and good vibes,
