We are all striving to create a world where everyone experiences healthy, loving, and safe relationships. We all have a role to play, and we are definitely stronger together. What is In Her Shoes? In this experiential activity participants assume the roles of diverse victim-survivors as they seek assistance from a variety of resources. Each resource represents an institution or service that victim- survivors encounter as they struggle through their circumstances, such as courts, doctors, and shelters. In Her Shoes demonstrates that an individual victim-survivor’s escape from abuse is complex and very complicated, not to mention very unpredictable and sometimes quite impossible. It is the experiential nature of In Her Shoes that allows participants to better understand the extreme challenges faced by victim-survivors. Note: Tool created on real-life stories and is evidence informed.
Outcome: Leads communities to shift their thinking about domestic violence and evolve their practices around what it really means to support victims-survivors, hold those who cause harm accountable, and envision a world where violence and abuse don’t flourish as they do now. It is up to us to create conditions where violence doesn’t thrive, and our communities are safe.
