Prior to becoming a naturopathic physician, Dr. Edward Shabez worked as a personal trainer, massage therapist and nutrition counselor. “I had always considered medical school, but it seemed like it consisted of primarily writing prescriptions. I wanted to work one-on-one with patients and to spend more time with them,” he explains. “I went to an open house for naturopathy, and a light bulb went off. It was the ideal path to take my expertise to the next level.”

Shabez received his Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine degree from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. Before moving to Tucson, he lived in Las Vegas, working in telemedicine—an experience which gave him “the analytical mind and the mental database to find the connections between seemingly unlikely signs and symptoms.”

At Tucson Biological Wellness, Shabez focuses on heavy metal detoxification, anti-aging and preventative health services. Their state-of-the-art modalities can aid in the restorative process, including IV nutritional therapy, infrared sauna therapy, red light therapy, the HOCATT (Hyperthermic Ozone Carbonic Acid Transdermal Technology) and a new hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

“I really like challenging cases, and start with the inquiry, the gathering of information and investigative testing,” says Shabez. “The next step is restorative therapies to bring your body back into balance, including lifestyle changes, nutrition and supplementation, acupuncture, herbal formulas and prescription medicine.”

Shabez also wrote a book, Finding Wellness and Avoiding Illness, which helps us to focus on those activities that are going to have the greatest impact on our health and actively make a difference in combating heart disease, diabetes, cancer and dementia.
