How Does Hypnosis Work?Sep 30, 2022 07:30AM ● By Erica Mills
Has your mind ever drifted away while driving and you missed your turn or arrived at your destination without remembering the drive there? Often, when we are driving, we are on autopilot. After learning a route and taking it many times, we don’t have to think about where we are going. It seems that we get there quicker and we don’t even have to think about it.
Unlike the first time we go somewhere new, we have to pay attention and concentrate. The conscious mind is drifting off and thinking about other things while the subconscious mind comes forward and takes over the driving. The mind wanders and you are lost in thought. Your thoughts seem more real than what is happening on the road.
During hypnosis, the subconscious mind is active while the conscious mind relaxes. You are not unconscious or asleep and you remain in control. It is the place in between being awake and asleep. It is in this relaxed state that suggestions into the subconscious mind can support positive change.
When Life Coaching is combined with hypnotherapy, a practitioner will first converse with the client about how they feel and what changes they wish to have in their life. During this conversation, the pair will create statements of intention or affirmations to integrate into the hypnosis session. The client is in control and the conscious mind is relaxed. The conscious mind can come forward at any time. The subconscious mind will not accept suggestions that are not aligned with one’s own decisions.
