Professor Researching Effect of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy on Cancer

With the likelihood of developing cancer rising to a one in two chances during our lifetime, an effective approach to treating cancer continues to be a priority. Professor Dominic D’Agostino, Ph.D., who teaches courses in molecular pharmacology and physiology at University of South Florida, is doing landmark research.

One approach to fighting cancer cells is to make the immune system healthy enough to defeat the cancer cells, while creating a metabolic environment in which the cancer cells cannot thrive. D’Agostino is doing this in his lab by combining hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), along with a ketogenic, calorie-restricted diet.

He has reason to believe that these treatments work synergistically to fight cancer, and has published research in mice. D’Agostino has not published any human research or recommended a specific HBOT protocol, but he is working on treatments for advanced stages of human cancer.

Carol L. Henricks, M.D., offers HBOT at Northstar Hyperbaric, located at 7598 N. La Cholla Blvd., in Tucson. Connect with her at 520-229-2122 at NorthstarHBOT.com. See ad, page 33.
