You’re Not Lost, You’re Just Growing Wild: Why midlife isn’t a crisis—it’s a creative awakening

At some point, many women in midlife find themselves pausing mid-sentence, mid-job, mid-life and thinking: Wait…is this it?

It’s not that anything’s terribly wrong. But something feels off—like a flicker has gone out. The old rhythms don’t fit. The spark is harder to access. There’s a sense of quiet restlessness, of wanting more…without always knowing what more is.

In our culture, we’re taught to fear that moment. It’s labeled a “midlife crisis,” as if this stirring is something to be avoided, denied or medicated away. But what if it’s not a problem at all? What if it’s actually a threshold?

As the founder of Moxie, a reinvention community for women 45 and up, I’ve worked with hundreds of women navigating this exact territory. And I can tell you this: That moment when you start to feel uncertain, uninspired or slightly out of step with your own life? That’s not a breakdown. That’s a breakthrough trying to happen.

It’s not a sign you’re lost. It’s a sign you’re about to grow wild.

The Myth of “Wellness”
We’re told that “wellness” is about discipline—what we eat, how we move, which supplements we take. And yes, our bodies matter. But at midlife and beyond, wellness starts to mean something deeper. Something wilder. Something much more personal.

Wellness is not just physical—it’s energetic.

Are you giving your time and energy to what truly lights you up?

Are your days aligned with your values, not just your obligations?

Are you creatively nourished, emotionally supported, spiritually awake?

In this chapter of life, wellness looks less like striving and more like remembering. Less like proving, and more like expressing. It’s about reclaiming your own rhythm, your own voice, your own way of being in the world.

The Power of Letting Go
Part of what makes this season powerful is that we’re invited to release what no longer serves. Roles we’ve outgrown. Expectations we never signed up for. Even outdated dreams we’ve outlived.

I’ve seen it again and again: when a woman lets go of what’s no longer true, she creates space for something new to emerge. Sometimes it’s a creative project that’s been quietly calling her name for years. Sometimes it’s a new relationship—with herself, her body, or the sacred in the everyday. Sometimes it’s simply the courage to be still for a while and listen for what’s next.
That space—that fertile, uncertain, shimmering space—is where transformation lives.

Creativity as Medicine
You don’t have to be an artist to live a creative life. Creativity is simply how you access your aliveness. It might look like painting, sure—but it also might look like rearranging your living room so it actually feels like you. Taking long walks without a destination. Making a collage that captures how you want your days to feel. Wearing something that makes your spirit say hell yes.
At midlife, we don’t need more performance metrics. We need more play. More meaning. More beauty. More soul.

You’re Not Too Late
One of the most common things I hear is, “Isn’t it too late?”

Too late to start something new.

Too late to change directions.

Too late to be seen, heard and celebrated.

To that, I say: Nope. Not even close.

If anything, this is your prime. You’ve got wisdom, discernment, depth—and now you get to decide what to do with it. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to say yes to what’s next. Yes to beauty. Yes to boldness. Yes to your own becoming.

Want a Place to Begin?
If this resonates—if your soul is whispering yes—you’re not alone.

Club Moxie is a creative, soulful membership community designed for women 45 and up who are ready to step into their next chapter with intention, artistry and unapologetic joy. With monthly events, meditative collage parties, deep conversations, and a growth-friendly sisterhood, it’s where reinvention stops being a solo act and starts becoming a shared adventure.

This isn’t self-help. It’s self-remembrance.

You’re not too late. You’re right on time.

Let’s grow wild.
